About Bishop Nick

Bishop Nick is run by Nelion Ridley in darkest Essex! Nelion is one of the famous Ridley family known for brewing on the banks of the Chelmer from 1842 right up to 2005 when the brewery, started by Thomas Dixon Ridley, was sold to Greene King.

The brewery is named after Bishop Nicholas Ridley who was born in 1500 and became Bishop of London in 1550. He later fell foul of the Pope and was imprisoned in the Tower of London where he was tried for Heresy. In 1555 Queen Mary had Bishop Nick burnt at the stake for his religious beliefs. This has given inspiration for some of the breweries beers.
